Van Gogh’s Cloned Ear

Vincent van Gogh was a Dutch Post-Impressionist painter who is among the most famous in the history of Western art. He suffered from mental illness and on 27 July 1890, Van Gogh shot himself and died two days later. Before that, he’d spent time in a number of psychiatric hospitals and at one point severed his own ear (or lied about his friend Paul Gauguin having done it). Artist Diemut Strobe and scientists from MIT and Harvard have teamed up more than 120 years later to recreate his (ear by cloning) in a living display of the marvels bioengineering.
